Journey of Resilience and Growth

, ,

Over the last 13 years climbing the career ladder, I have encountered my fair share of challenges—easy and difficult, large and small, some recurring and others unique, some were a breeze, others really tested my limits. Contrary to popular belief, the higher you go, the challenges don’t necessarily get tougher. But I won’t lie – there were moments when they felt almost too much to handle, and the idea of throwing in the towel crossed my mind more times than I can count.

However, I have almost never let these situations get the better of me; I’ve always strived to push through. During my PwC days, the thought of resigning was a monthly ritual but I stayed on for a solid 4.5 years. I decided to pivot my career when I felt a pull towards something different, FP&A.

Post my PwC era, each trial I faced only fueled my search for new opportunities. However, I made sure to never leave any challenge unresolved. My quest for finding the right career path turned out to be a journey of self-discovery which eventually led me to my current office, that feels like my true fit.

With a deeper personal understanding, I get more selective about the battles I pick and, even, changed my perspectives in seeing job opportunities. It’s funny, though, how things have changed. I have been staying over 4 years at my current role, a stark contrast to my previous restless days. Job offers come knocking more frequently than ever, but I find myself less inclined to resign.

What has changed? I guess, age plays a significant role. More wisdom comes with the years, hopefully. LOL. Deeper than that, like what Sun Tzu stated in The Art of War, understanding yourself is the first step of winning any battle. In my pursuit of professional fulfillment and self-discovery, I have a new understanding of what my core values are: (1) a career path that offers growth and trust, (2) a salary that feels rewarding and matches my achievements, and, most importantly, (3) never compromising my integrity. These core values has been crucial in guiding me in making every career decisions.

I am excited to find what lies ahead for me with no fear as I believe that every trial is a stepping stone to greater heights. :”) After all, I hope that my sharing above resonates with you all. As we close, I invite you to take a moment to reflect on your professional journey. What are the values that drive you?
